"Keep Ya Head Up" is a classic Rap song whose lyrics were aimed at uplifting the spirit of Black women by addressing their struggles with mental health. The Rapper Tupac Shakur, often known for using controversial language in his songs, strove to raise awareness of mental health within the Black community. Despite having experienced trauma, pain and suffering himself, he was an advocate for self-improvement and education, encouraging others to strive to reach their full potential. Much of his music speaks to the need to protect oneself from the harshness of the society he lived in. In this piece the contrast of the black, white and grey tones surrounded by bursts of colour to reflect the hard and gritty gangster image contrasted with the positive, bright, colourful uplifting messages behind the lyrics in this song.
