Born Cassius Clay and affectionately known as "The Greatest Of All Time", (a self proclaimed title) Ali captured audiences with his humour, bravado, confidence and self-esteem both in and out of the boxing ring. Born in and growing up during a time of national civil unrest, his outspoken personality saw him become a prominent figure of the civil rights movement and he fiercely challenged racism and segregation.

Having changed his name after converting to Islam in 1965, Ali proudly spoke in interviews about his self-worth and the value of being a black man. "I Am The Greatest" had to have been one of the most courageous things to have boldly proclaimed and believed, during a time of deep racial unrest and discrimination.
